The American Postal Workers Union and the Postal Service have agreed to a benefit plan to provide health insurance coverage to Postal Support Employees with less than a year's service.
The enrollment period for this opportunity will be May 16-June 30, 2016.
The Postal Service contribution will be at least $125 per pay period and the self only premium will be capped so that the employee will have to pay no more than 9.5% of their gross pay each pay period.
If a PSE chooses the Self Only coverage it would be $35 per pay period.
The Self Plus One would cost $195 per pay period.
Self and Family coverage would be $355 per pay period.
Obviously this coverage is better for self only. But this agreement does provdie health insurance options for any PSE regardless of time in service.
If you do not enroll during this Special Enrollment Period, you will have to wait until the next open season that will begin in November. Any option you would choose at this time would not take effect until the following January.
Check with your post office for further details in how to enroll.
